The word 'live' is evil spelled backwards, and Satanism is the worship of life, not a hypocritical, whitewashed vision of life, but life as it really is," says Anton LaVey, leader of the 5,000 member Satanic Church in San Francisco, California. LaVey, who was once a lion tamer, a carnival mind reader and hypnotist, seems to be using all his talents on the women who flock to worship on his black altar. Each appears to be offering her nude body to the chief sorcerer of the Satanic Church without reservation. There can be sensed an almost worshipful aura surrounding LaVey, as if he were indeed Satan's earthly incarnation. "Nudity," he claims, "is a vital part of all ceremonies and celebrations glorifying Satan and the dark powers." Every Friday evening, Anton LaVey holds a ritualistic black mass complete with a nude human altar, a beautiful girl who is dedicated to serving Satan. During the service, LaVey, dressed in an embroidered robe over a leopard skin tunic, with a sword in one hand and a chalice in the other, chants an invocation to Lucifer, Beelzebub, Satan, the Devil and all the other names for the Prince of Darkness. LaVey claims that there is a close relationship between the neurotic fear of demonic possession and off-beat sexual desires. Often when someone comes to have a demon exorcised, whenever possible LaVey recommends that they act out their unusual sexual fantasies. You can imagine some of the strange scenes that take place as supplicants come to LaVey's eerie and mystical house to act out their weird erotic desires!
